Maybe you and I should double date sometime. I think that your girlfriend and my 19 year old, Asian, double amputee fiance with Tourette Syndrome and clubbed feet would really hit it off! Let's meet at the San Jose Mall.

EC: I think you are mostly correct re: Mr. Oliver except he is either p*ssy whipped or having on-going thoughts about Parque Morazon. Also, congrats on the probable first time ever reference on this board to a 'jake brake'. It's hard to mistake that noise for something else. Wile Coyote

I shudder to think what it will be like when gringos like Mr. Oliver start leading the charge to "improve" the quality of life in CR to the level of "developed countries" like the UK, USA & Canada. :?

I'm not sure if our thread starter, PIDD, added the tidbit about "Sex Tourists" for a little levity, however, the other "complaints" listed by self-appointed spokesman, Scott Oliver, rankle me even more. If barking dogs, braking trucks, loud parties and fireworks remain significant issues with Mr. Oliver and his business associates, they always have the option of leaving their host country and returning to their “civilized world.”

I guess I am harboring a slow-burning rant against the "holier-than-thou" mindset that many North Americans adopt when they travel or immigrate to "less developed" countries. I read that the number of gringo ex-pats in CR is around 50 - 60,000...and the number continues to grow. With the flames of special interests fanned by opportunists like Scott Oliver, how long will it take before this group starts imposing its uptight, politically-correct, neo-Victorian values on Ticos and those ex-pats who only desire to live and let live?

I grew up with the “Woodstock Generation” which outwardly embraced the concepts of “Love, Peace and Understanding.” Somewhere over the past 40 years, it appears my generation took a wrong turn south. In 2007, true individualism is discouraged, privacy is almost non-existent, and personal accountability is suspended. In light of the growing influx of “civilized people” from the north, those of us, who think “less-developed” countries like Costa Rica may offer an escape from the aforementioned bullsh*t, might need to think twice! :(

Thanks for listening…

Peace,

Bluedevil,

Well put thanks. I think it was 'The lure of easy money' that sent this particular generation from achieving greatness along side the Men of two WW'S.

As mentioned somewhere in another thread, I salute those that have served in all theaters of war and the sacrifices made. How interesting that they now find the 10k sq ft house behind a gate,Country Club membership and gas guzzling Suv's to be there real possesions.

I'm putting some Paco DeLuca on the stereo and grilling some fajita's, I'm off the soap box.

Peace,Out
