With all the stir lately on this board about whether or not to have a Novia, and having been hooked-up with one ( The Spratt) for about two years I thought a honest look from someone who has one and semi-supports her....

1. Can you support your Novia financially? Novia’s are expensive.

2. Can you support your Novia emotionally? Novia’s are cute, but they are also completely helpless and emotionally needy. In plain English, this means the end of a normal (single) adult social life because Novia’s are extremely time-consuming and have been known to be quite jealous

3. Are you prepared to be a consistent Papi Chulo? Novia’s are fast learners –great manipulators. Schopping is what they best …. Both good and bad, if it’s on sale and they like it, your buying it.

4. Have you read up on your Pimsleur Spanish course, and have mastered the Langue to the point of understanding what is being said around you? Your new Novia is Spanish and that’s what she speaks. The relationship will sour quickly if you can’t Hablo castellano.

5. Finally how are you going to handle her Ch*ldren...Better yet Her whole Family? For me the Spratt has a little boy, and I can tell you he does not always make it easy on me, and I refuse to buy him through presents. Then there is her mother and Grandmother, remember you’re now the Papi Chulo, Fixer of all things that go bad….. Phone stolen…No problem…call Papi Chulo for WU.....Rent Due/Electric getting shut-off.....That's right Papi Chulo….K*D needs medicine for the flu/school clothes….Yep PC…..Plane ticket(s) to the DR/CR/ Mexico/Pamama...Hell I think she flew to pengo pengo....Just to go Schopping.... Guys, I’m not saying all Novia’s have this much baggage, nor do they cost as much, but be aware of all the facts. Every situation is different, the more knowledge that you have under your belt, the better you will fair. I will say this, since I’ve been with the Spratt..I’ve not been ripped off by the taxi drivers nor have I been robbed. She’s had to put me up in her apartment, has had to loan me money, and feed me, more then one time, so I’ll keep her….for awhile

So exactly what are the upsides to this relationship or am I missing something? I don't have a novia and haven't been ripped off by taxi drivers or robbed either. You say she puts up with you in her apartment, well that's nice of her since you pay the bills. She's loaned you money, isn't that like borrowing your own money? She feeds you but probably only when you won't take her out to dinner and you buy groceries... And what's with all the plane tickets? The key is to look for a novia with no baggage...., that means no K*ds, no family who depends on her....,, or who has her own place... She should be available if you look hard enough....
Train her in so much as you want her to understand that if you are to take care of her and be her man,,, you need to have some others from time to time so you dont get bored with her and keep her as your number one girl... With a little understanding ... you will succeed ... and be ready for a novia....

I believe the degree to which one must deal with the difficullties mentioned above is entirely dependent upon the type of gal you choose to be with. If she is a lower class, uneducated chica, with brothers and sisters, parents and grand parent's who are alive and sickly, and all live in
a tiny shack, you and your bank account will be perceived as the "pot o gold at the end of the rainbow".
If you choose to seek out middle to high class chicas with an education and family members who are more driven and self-sufficient you are less likely to encounter such problems.

Case in point: I have two friends from high school who are career military men. Over the last 25 years they have both traveled extensively in Central and South America. They both married latinas, one from Paraguay, and the other from Chile. One spouse had a Bachelors degree, and soon after moving to this country pursued a Master's degree, the other had already obtained a Master's. Neither spoke English, but learned quickly. Both friends been happily married for nearly fifteen years. RFM have never come. Both families are educated and self-sufficient. They do however, pay plane fare once a year to bring parent's to the states, and of course observe birthdays and holidays. My friends wives are both beautiful, articulate, and still retain their down to earth latina qualities. My Buddies could'nt be happier.

Are we supposed to understand the secret meaning of the pet name you have for your novia? Because I don't and please feel free to share it as there seems to be some special significance.

So I would like to address the post I quoted, which I wholeheartedly agree with, having spent time with a host of non-professionals in most Latin American contries and having paid for nothing other than what is a normal consideration during a date.

At first I would not listen to would you guys where posting. Thinking that “She different” How many times do I see that saying and think, this guy does not know what he’s getting into.

It all started so easy and cheap. The old apartment was $210.00 a month, and all I had to do was give her the money I had for the Hotel and I’d stay there. $50..00 in food, and a bottle of Rum...Cheap I tell you. Like I said, that was then, and this is now....Novia's cost, and cost, and cost.

I’m packed to go to the DR next week and believe me I could care less if she shows up. I have not been calling her for about two weeks ago and now she calls me daily… You know, kiss, kiss, Mi love you so much….. I’m done gentlemen and that why I’m posting it. It start out so easy and now I can't shake her. What an Actress.....She is very good @ what and how she does it, but in person, it all fallls apart. Poco, Spratt is a term that I learned while working on a Long liner. They are snowy grouper (Undersize) or what is referred to as Spratts.. They are most tender and moist and tasty, hey, I understand Shark as the same texture and favor….. :mrgreen::mrgreen:

As you know, I've had the pleasure(?) of meeting your Spratt, and spending a weekend with you both, along with my wingman and his chica.

I commend you on your decision to kick her to the curb. My wingman and I BOTH noticed how she treated you. The more you gave her, the more she wanted. It never seemed to be enough. She constantly had her hand out! NEXT !

Go to Blackbeards next week solo. You don't need her. There's PLENTY more where that came from. You're gonna have a great time, and you'll come back with a whole new outlook!
