There's some great responses here. But IMHO, Paco's nailed it with the above quote. Learning (at least) some basic Español, and showing respect for the chica's will pay off in spades.

In their line of work, the chica's get to see PLENTY of "Ugly Americans". Act as a gentleman, and set yourself apart. You'll be amazed at how many of the chica's will reciprocate!

Best advice anyone could give you. So many men go down to party hardy & act like fools banging whores . Hey you can still be nice & phuck like rabbits while keeping a good reputation. It has been very rewarding on return visits is what most men find I believe.

Sad to see the foreign men that come to CR with that attitude of superiority that somehow we are better than them, like they (the chicas) are some form of sub-species to be used, mistreated & not respected. Drinking sure brings this out of the really fugly men that I have seen. Glad to see this is a small minority but it sure is an ugly sight !

The other thing is after they're "hardened" as some put it, how do you get them to spend enough time to know you won't be that way?

Just be a gentleman with them from the git-go.......they'll be receptive to you. It's only plain common sense.

I know we've been down this road before, but the biggest complaints I hear from the chicas is that they "sometimes" get "stiffed" out of their money and "sometimes" the gringo is using drugs or wants them to use drugs.

Fear thee not my brother, fear thee not! Costa Rica is a smorgasboard of young women. The "available" young woman outnumber the muff-tourists by about 50 to 1. Whatever you like, it is there to be had, in the disco bars, sex bars, cat houses, massage parlors, everywhere! Check out the pictures in the Costa Rica Ticas VIP gallerys, you will see every type of young woman you can want, something for everyone! To me, the people complaining about the quality also seem to be the one complaining about paying $100 when only wanted to pay $60. Personally, I think that if after spending all the $$$ to go to CR and you have a problem paying $40 more dollars, perhaps you should have stayed home.

I will be arriving for my 2nd visit on Friday and I can't wait to get back. I "met" over 10 different woman my last trip, no regrets about any of them. Some were double-dates, all were great times. I haven't read where anyone said that the regretted their trip to Costa Rica.

Some other complaints that I'd add that some chicas might have:

1) Are guys that post pictures of them in places like our VIP gallery and on other forums either without their consent or in some cases against their express wishes. Of course this is not quite so common as the other complaints since the chicas have to find out first, but most of them are generally aware that it happens and thus are often reluctant to pose for any photos by even a well-meaning gringo who really does just want them for his personal memories. Any guy that has ever asked if he could take a pic and has encountered the resulting mistrust and suspicion will confirm that this problem does exist and can easily spill over to the rest of us who are innocent.

2) Not really a complaint but something that colors their attitude towards us, are all the easy marks, like the guys who are willing to pay the $100 asking price for just one hour in a country where the average wage is something like $20-25 per day and the average MP girl gets only $10/hr for doing essentially the same thing. Add to this category all those guys who fall for the chicas' various money extorting cons especially those that involve sending money back from the US in exchange for nothing more than tearful RFM e-mail and vague promises of what she will do (for even more money) when or if he ever returns. This doesn't add to any reputation as assholes but does add to our reputation as potential saps which amounts to the same thing since it leads to disrespect.

3) Not really a complaint against any of us gringos but one against tico men, who often do act like assholes with their women. To some degree this works in our favor when they regard us in comparison to the local men in their lives. But it can also work to some degree against us on a subconscious level as these women probably have developed a mistrust and suspicion of men in general over their lifetimes.

4) And the last complaint that at least I have, and I'm sure factors into chica's general attitudes, are the loud minority of guys you often see at places like the BM who openly disparage chicas and ticos in general in conversations with their buddies, ignorantly thinking that they can not understand their english or what they are saying behind their backs in front of them. These may not describe most of us, but it does describe the guys that are often easiest to notice. A lot of guys that go down to CR, though I'm convinced a lot less from this board, really think of these working girls as just a bunch of conniving whores who they can treat anyway they want as long as they're paying the money.
